my best attempt at this whole domestic thing

bridging the gap between home-ec drop-out and domestic goddess
Just a brief diversion from the Curtain saga, for the next most current issue at the home… WHY ARE DOG DOORS SO EXPENSIVE?! We’ve got the back door from hell. Satan himself thought 95 inches of sliding glass would be an awesome cruel joke to clueless first-time home buyers. Not only does it contribute to the disaster regarding curtains, it creates a “special” dog door dilemma, so special that they DON’T sell these 95 inch inserts in stores, so special that it adds 140 whopping big ones to the regular 85 inch doors (which already cost about $150). I honestly thought dog doors were like 50 bucks. Wow was researching prices for the first time a shock. Price Gauging: 1, Emily: 0. Not to mention, the math here is all wrong. For almost double the price, I should be getting a 170 inch dog door patio panel insert. Satan: 1, Math Logic: 0, Emily: 0. Very funny Satan. You have tricked us both.   Funny thing is, it took 30 seconds after the initial shock of the price for the faze to wear off! As a typical Gen Y’er, I trusted my savvy tech capabilities would save me, Google will pave the golden way to a less expensive option, and figured I’d have the dog door issue solved for half the listed price, shipped next day, installed by the third. Instant gratification 10 seconds ago please.  NAY. Google just yielded a bunch of random companies who were really trying to squeeze all the cash out of dog owners… RedBarn, PetSafe, you name it, all had them going for 400 and above. Surprisingly, PetCo and PetSmart were hooking up the best deals (even at $299! gulp) and PetCo even offered Free Shipping. HOW SWEET considering its not available in any store anyway right?Don’t think the thought didn’t cross my mind of making one… thankfully the curtain saga had me think twice about that. I think I could hear the dog sigh with relief after I came to the conclusion that making one wasn’t really an option… I imagine my version would look like the one pictured above.  So, 300 bucks later, 2 weeks of ship time later (still waiting on the stupid thing), and probably 6 hours of installation time before we figure out its installed upside down - we will have the solution, and one really happy dog. Man, that dog is hooked up.
